I'm so glad that the director of IT (2017) wasn't afraid to insert some of his original creations onto the story.

This one formation of the fears, what shows as the flute lady was in my opinion the most disturbing and scary imagination and specially when she attacked you.
This movie even gets an continiue in 2 years (2019), and I am so excited!

If the monster It can take on the form of anyone's worst fears, I wouldn't want to encounter IT and see what happens if it takes on the form of a shark or hideous spider, my worst fears. The part with the painting was the scariest and creepiest of them all.

In the original 1990s miniseries adaptation and book, pennywise's truest form is a massive spider.

Did that painting have some sort of meaning? Or was it just a creepy piece in the movie ?

It was the film director's personal childhood fear. His mother used to have a painting illustrated by Amedeo Modigliani, who would portray people with vacant eyes and elongated faces.

Modigiani's work also inspired the ghost mother from "Mama", the directors first film. So it's like a little personal touch of childhood trauma, which is fitting, given that IT is all about that.

When I saw this movie and I looked at that painting, my first reaction was "What did the artist have in his system when he painted that picture?!"

I never expected the monster to take on the form of a painting! I thought it was an incredibly nice touch. You know what the crazy thing is? I think I recognize what artist would've done the painting depicted in the movie. The style of art similar to that painting bears an uncanny resemblance to the works of Amadeo Modigliani, who was one of the most renown painters in modern art. His art style consists of long, lean faces with long, lean noses and diamond-shaped eyes, all creating a somewhat expressionless face. To say that any of Modigliani's works would be unsettling to some would be an understatement, and that's part of the reason why I think the director chose to add the painting. I did some more research on Modigliani, and as it turns out, he did not do a painting of a woman holding a flute. My best guess is that that painting was made specifically for the movie.

Oh, she was terrifying, almost as much as The Leper. I stifled a scream when she almost bit Stan's face off in the sewer. Holy shit :fear:

I read that it was based off the uncanny valley work of a real painter.

The Lady with the flute aka Judith was by far the top creepiest form Pennywise assumed. I know people think she reminds them of Mama, but to me she felt more like something out of Silent Hill.

The Zombie Sewer Children, the Headless Burned Boy, and the Leper were also creepy forms/illusions as well.

yeah, this is arguably scarier than pennywise's default form. but then again pennywise in his entirety is terrifying.
